7. History
A simple web search for vintage postcards can show you an impressive collection. As noted in our article on Louis James Pesha, there is a rich history with postcards and tourism. Consider utilizing some historical resources, such as your local library or historical society to get a better idea of the story you can tell with your design.

5. Food
Perhaps the most easy way to attract (hungry) people is to simply show them something delicious. If you have a favorite dish or something that is unique to a Michigander’s diet, consider highlighting it in your design.

4. Automotive
Living in the hub of the country’s automotive industry has its perks. This week the North American International Auto Show is taking place and is a perfect opportunity to snap a few photos for your postcard. Can’t make it to the show? Check out some classic models at the Henry Ford Museum, or give it a personal twist and incorporate your own car into your design.

3. Seasons
It could be the beauty of freshly fallen snow, or the varied hues of fall leaves. Michigan has all the seasons. Find a way to showcase the natural beauty each season offers.

2. On the Water
With five great lakes, Michigan has the largest freshwater coastline in the world! Many people own boats, lake houses, and enjoy being out on the water. Think of the last time you’ve been out on the water and consider ways to show off your day of fun in the sun.

1. People
Have you been to a festival, street fair, or community center lately? How about that epic night on the town with friends? Consider transforming some Facebook photo fodder into a work of art. Share the story of your family or a special person.
