Who has been the most influential person in your career? No one in particular, but I love art from the Post-Impressionism period like Georges Seurat to Shepard Fairey.
What is your favorite thing about design? I love taking someone’s ideas and making their vision come true.
What is the most memorable moment of your career? When my father passed away, people automatically thought I should design his obituary. At first I didn’t want anything to do with it; let the funeral home deal with it so I can can just be a grieving daughter. But I decided to do it and it was nice to see old pictures of my father and really enjoy those memories of him.
What advice would you give to someone just getting started in the design world? Stay current! Learning doesn’t stop once you graduate.
What is your favorite thing about AIGA Detroit? I like the variety of events offered including the chats on Twitter.
What inspires you as a designer? I’m inspired to push myself to become better with each project. I also look at the way things are designed all around me and try to figure out how the designer made decisions.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a designer and how have you handled them? Sometimes it’s hard to get clients to see the big picture. For example, when working on a save the date or invitation for an event, everyone on the committee has input and it’s my job to make sense of it all.
What are you excited to learn or work on next? I want to start learning UI and UX design.
