Recap: Detroit Design Festival

AIGA Detroit is so grateful to be a part of a growing and thriving design community! Congratulations to DC3 (Detroit Creative Corridor Center) for hosting another successful Detroit Design Festival, and thank you for including us! This year we participated in Eastern Market After Dark and hosted the Future of Design Technology: Mixed Reality workshop.

As always, Eastern Market After Dark was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make lots of new ones. A huge thank you to George Kepler, AIGA Detroit Board Member, for designing and building our awesome display—complete with custom chairs!

For the first time, AIGA Detroit hosted an EMAD Scavenger Hunt, a virtual and in-person experience encouraging attendees to seek out a variety of unique experiences throughout the Eastern Market landscape. Participants who found all of our clues were entered into a drawing to win a free workshop at Signal Return. Congratulations to Matt Puls, designer at Quicken Loans, who was this year’s winner!

Just a few days later, we descended on Ponyride to host Future of Design Technology: Mixed Reality, an adventure into designing for virtual and augmented reality. Lead by Adam Stogdill of Deep Canvas, more than 50 attendees learned about how designers and developers are partnering to design and build for these new mediums, as well as experiencing virtual reality demos for themselves. Check out Adam’s Facebook group, Detroit Area Mixed Reality, to learn more about VR and AR, as well find info on future meetups.

As always, thank you to all of our members who came out to join us — we’re already looking forward to next year!
