Stew!

I’d like to start with a big thank you to everyone who made it out to Stew! this month. Due to the good turn out, we had some great conversations about self-promotion. Experienced designers at the table gave useful advice about what really works and what doesn’t to designers early in their careers. Aside from the conversation, it was comforting just to have a laid back social event to meet other designers in the area.
If you missed Stew, don’t worry! This event will be happening the first Wednesday of every month. The next one is scheduled for May 5th, where we will discuss Spec work. This has been a hot topic for designers lately, and has even led to extreme anti-spec websites, heated debates, and hilarious satire videos. This topic has caused such an uproar in the past couple years, that AIGA has put together their own formal statement about spec work.
With more and more examples of crowdsourcing and requests for spec work popping up in this competitive economy, its about time we share our thoughts on the topic. How do you handle requests for spec work? Come share your thoughts and ideas at the next Stew! May 5th, 2010 @ Noodles & Company, Royal Oak, MI.
About Stew!
Stew! is our monthly mid-day meet-up event happening the first Wednesday of each month, where we discuss design topics over Lunch. Detroit area creatives come out to learn from one another and share knowledge they already have. Everyone’s voice matters and together we can build a stronger Detroit design community. Stew! topics change monthly. Past topics have included networking and self-promotion.
